about

2021: A LAZY ODYSSEY is an album of wonderful contrasts with the instrumental ‘Polly’s Lament’, ubiquitous classic rock anthems ‘Wait For Me’, ‘Perdition Dance’, ‘My Hand (Peaky Blinders)’, ‘Pretty As A Flower’ and ‘No No No’, the heavier System of Down-esque ‘Falling In To You’ with interesting time changes and blues rock number ‘I Don’t Know Who I Am’.

The album title 2021: A LAZY ODYSSEY is a play on the title of the 1968 movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. In keeping with the movies theme the album is introduced with Lazy Fifty’s take of the classical instrumental Also Sprach Zarathustra (R Strauss), the movie’s theme song (check out the timpanis, epic). However, this is definitely not a concept album!

lyrics

PERDITION DANCE © Primemover

I’ve got a backlog full of misery at my door
Sweet dreams never visit me no more
The Judas trial passed down in history
Black thoughts trickle out to the sea
Perdition dance by the light of the moon

Well my woman why she’s angry once again
She said the last time we made love – I don’t know when
You got the creepy crawlies biting on your skin
And you wash the blues away with a bottle of gin
Perdition dance by the light of the moon

Well I’m standing on the edge of a great divide
There’s a big black hole a big black hole
For this body to go and hide
I said I’m turning in – turn the lights out
I’m gonna jump to the bottom of the wishing well
Scream and shout
Scream out. Nobody listening

Old man perdition keepin’ tradition singin’
Sex, drugs, rock'n'roll
Free love fills my soul
Old man perdition just keepin’ tradition

Time to pay my last respects to life
So I draw the curtain down on the night
Everything I done – I done it in vain
One old devil who wants to take the blame
Perdition dance by the light of the moon

Old man perdition keepin’ tradition singin’
Sex, drugs, rock’n’roll – free love fill my soul
Old man perdition, a sixties tradition singin’
Heroin, bring it in, where’s the needle, ain’t that a sin
Old man perdition keepin' tradition
Come closer come a little closer
Old man perdition just keepin’ tradition

about

Lazy Fifty Gisborne, New Zealand

Lazy Fifty’s music harks back to the classic rock of the 70s, enhanced with a healthy dose of funk, rocking rhythms & impressive guitar. Our name comes from the saying of a friend. When he asked you for a ‘lazy 20’ (dollars), you knew you’d never see the money again. That was a long time ago and our friend is no longer with us. In memory of him, and allowing for inflation, we are now ‘Lazy Fifty’. ... more
